Assam Signs Memorandums of Settlement With Kuki and Hmar Militant Groups
Assam government signed memorandums of settlement with Kuki and Hmar militant groups to promote peace and stability in the North Eastern Region. Kuki belong to the Tibeto-Burman group, part of Kuki-Chin-Mizo, mainly in Manipur and most NE states (except Arunachal Pradesh), also in Myanmar and Bangladesh; village-based under hereditary chief “Haosa”. Hmar, meaning “north”, are within the broader Kuki-Zo community, found in southern Manipur, Mizoram, Assam, Meghalaya and Tripura, also in Myanmar and Bangladesh.
